HHM Donation Supports Innovative Solutions At Willard School In Warren, Oh
- March 11, 2010
WARREN, Ohio – Harrington, Hoppe & Mitchell Ltd., the area’s largest law firm, has contributed $500 to support an innovative Willard School program that encourages higher attendance and better behavior. (See photo, above.)
Willard’s Positive Behavior Support initiative stages parties and other special events for students who meet challenging attendance and behavior goals.
“Willard has crafted an innovative solution to a problem that challenges many schools,” said Jess T. Enyeart, an HHM lawyer. “We’re impressed with the teachers, administrators and students who developed this program and we’re very proud to support it. We’d like to see other schools study and learn from Willard’s experience.”
The program was established three years ago and has shown promising results, said Willard Lead Principal Edward Ashcroft. For example, the number of students qualifying to attend a recent “beach party” was up 40 percent from the number that qualified for a similar event a year ago.
“We’re working to reward those students who consistently show positive behavior and good attendance,” he said. “We also want to provide a nice goal for kids who may be on the edge of good behavior.
“The numbers show us that not only are kids having fun at these events and continuing to do the things that enable them to qualify, but they’re also telling their friends, who are also qualifying.”
