HHM Releases 2018 Community Report
The lawyers and staff at Harrington, Hoppe & Mitchell, Ltd. are dedicated to supporting the Mahoning Valley. We provide financial and in-kind support throughout the year to organizations that support economic development, healthcare, education, the arts, food distribution, youth sports and much more.

Support for Community Organizations & Events
In 2018, HHM lawyers were proud to contribute financial support or time to more than 30 local organizations or events, as well as pro bono legal services:
Education
- The Raymond John Wean Foundation – John Pogue was a panelist at a January workshop titled “Speaking Out: The Power of Your Public Voice.”
- “Just for Kicks Auction” – HHM lawyers Matthew Ries, Patrick Wilson, Vito Abruzzino and Michael McGee contributed to and attended this auction with their spouses in March that benefits John F. Kennedy Catholic School.
- Matthew Ries and Vito Abruzzino served as attorney advisors to Mock Trial teams at Niles McKinley and Lordstown high schools.
- Junior Achievement of Mahoning Valley – Vito Abruzzino and Abbey Rhein spoke to students about future careers at Boardman Glenwood for JA in a Day.
- The Mahoning Valley College Access Program – HHM lawyer Denise Glinatsis Bayer contributed to and attended the MVCAP’s Progressive Dinner.
- Columbiana High School Booster Club – HHM lawyers Shawna L’Italien and Kellie Rogers were glad to support Columbiana High School Athletics.
- Leetonia, Lisbon, East Palestine, Salem and Crestview high school booster clubs – HHM lawyer Kellie Rogers was proud to support athletics for these local high schools.
- John F. Kennedy Athletic Booster Club – HHM lawyers Patrick Wilson, Vito Abruzzino and Kevin Murphy were pleased to support JFK athletics.
- Lakeview High School Booster Club – HHM lawyer Patrick Wilson was pleased to support the Lakeview high school tennis team.
Community Activities
- Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber Athena Awards – HHM was a sponsor of this annual event supporting local business women. Lawyers Abbey Rhein, Jacqueline Johnston and Shawna L’Italien attended the 2018 banquet with their spouses.
- Niles Youth Soccer League team – HHM lawyer Matthew Ries sponsored his children’s soccer team.
- Youngstown CityScape – HHM was a sponsor of the 21st annual Streetscape beautification event and lawyers Denise Glinatsis Bayer and Paul Dutton volunteered to plant flowers along West Federal Street in front of the Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center.
- Simply Slavic Heritage Festival – HHM was a sponsor and lawyer Alan Wenger volunteered at this event in downtown Youngstown.
- City Club of the Mahoning Valley – HHM supported the State of the Valley event at Packard Music Hall and lawyers Paul Dutton, Kevin Murphy, Neil Schor, Denise Glinatsis Bayer and their spouses attended the event.
- Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens – HHM supported the Summer Garden Party and lawyers Denise Glinatsis Bayer and Jacqueline Johnston attended the event with their spouses.
- Taste of Warren – HHM was among the sponsors for the third annual event at Courthouse Square.
- Panerathon – HHM was among the sponsors of the Panerathon in downtown Youngstown, a fund-raiser for the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Center at Mercy Health. This large group of lawyers and their families participated.
- Trumbull County Historical Society’s Oktoberfest on the Square – HHM was pleased to be among the sponsors for this event on the square in downtown Warren.
- Salem Community Center’s Women’s Night Out – HHM was among the sponsors and lawyers Kellie Rogers and Shawna L’Italien attended the event.
Arts & Theater
- YSU Mad About the Arts – HHM lawyers Denise Glinatsis Bayer, Paul Dutton, Jacqueline Johnston and Matthew Ries attended the event with their spouses at the McDonough Museum of Art in February.
- Lit Youngstown – HHM was pleased to sponsor Lit Youngstown’s Writing Camp in February.
- Youngstown Playhouse – HHM and lawyer Denise Glinatsis Bayer provided support to the Playhouse for the 2018 season.
- Opera Western Reserve – HHM and lawyer Denise Glinatsis Bayer are pleased to provide ongoing support to the opera and its “Madama Butterfly” Production in November.
- Torrie’s Academy of Dance – HHM lawyer Denise Glinatsis Bayer supported her daughter’s dance studio.
Health
- Sight for All United Eye Ball of the Mahoning Valley – HHM was among the sponsors of this event and lawyers Alan Wenger, Paul Dutton, Denise Glinatsis Bayer and Neil Schor attended with their spouses.
- Akron Children’s Hospital – HHM lawyer Denise Glinatsis Bayer attended the hospital’s Up Close event which showcases its impactful work.
- Salem Regional Medical Center Foundation‘s Hearts and Arts Wellness Expo – HHM lawyers Kellie Rogers (pictured) and Shawna L’Italien attended and had an informational table at the event.
- Salem Regional Medical Center Foundation’s Hearts & Stars Gala – HHM was pleased to be among the sponsors and lawyers Shawna L’Italien and Vito Abruzzino attended the event with their spouses.
Civic & Charitable Causes
- 2018 Mayor’s Inaugural Charity Ball – HHM supported the Charity Ball at Stambaugh Auditorium in January and lawyers Neil Schor and Denise Glinatsis Bayer attended the event with their spouses.
- Second Harvest’s Taste of the Valley – HHM was among the sponsors of this event at Stambaugh auditorium and lawyers Denise Glinatsis Bayer, Neil Schor and Kevin Murphy attended it with their spouses.
- Mahoning Valley Economic Development Corporation’s Golf Outing – HHM was pleased to be among the sponsors for this outing.
- Columbiana County Department of Job and Family Services – HHM lawyer Kellie Rogers was glad to support and attend the department’s quarterly information fairs.
- Leadership Mahoning Valley – HHM was pleased to be a Justice Day sponsor and lawyer Neil Schor helped organize and lead the event. Schor is a member of the Leadership board.
- Leadership Mahoning Valley – HHM lawyers Abbey Rhein and Neil Schor were pleased to support the annual breakfast that welcomes the class of 2019.
- Warren’s Future Community Foundation – HHM was proud to support and contribute to the fund for Warren’s future.
- St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen – HHM lawyer Thomas Carey and his wife are regular volunteers at this Warren soup kitchen, serving individuals in need.
- Jewish Community Center of Youngstown – HHM and lawyer Neil Schor supported the center’s Suzi Solomon Golf Classic.
- Trumbull 100 – HHM provided financial support to this business growth partnership and lawyer Matthew Ries is a Trumbull 100 member.
- Salem Area Sustainable Opportunity Development Center (SOD Center) – HHM provided financial support for this economic development center serving Salem and Columbiana County. Attorney Shawna L’Italien also serves on the Board Executive Committee.
- Youngstown Warren Regional and Salem Area chambers of commerce – HHM is a long-time member of both business organizations.
Pro Bono Services
- HHM and lawyers Paul Dutton, Denise Glinatsis Bayer and Shawna L’Italien provided services at no cost to several clients through referrals from Community Legal Aid Services and the Legal Creative. The work included helping individuals with estate planning and probate matters and helping nonprofit organizations secure tax-exempt status.
Service to Nonprofit Boards & Committees

Denise Glinatsis Bayer was elected president of the board of the
Mahoning Valley College Access Program. Denise was also elected to vice chair
of the board of Opera Western Reserve.
Kevin Murphy was named to the board of the Trumbull County Community Improvement Corp.
Paul Dutton was named chair of the board of the Akron Children’s Hospital Foundation.
Kellie Rogers was elected to the board of directors for the Salem Kiwanis Club.
Neil Schor was re-elected to the board of Leadership Mahoning Valley.
Shawna L’Italien was appointed to the Salem board of Zoning Appeals.
